Lap of luxury
  • Well you know, I think I am going to use the IO as the primary blogging thingy! how 'bout dat? eh? I mean I can always "post to blog" an entry if I want to! One cool thing that I noticed was that, now, when I say "Post to Blog", it actually respects the formatting that I have in the Outline, so it comes out all nice and shiny...
  • Today bunch of people were bitching about travel bonuses at work. I was wondering.. we're supposed to be the top 3% of the folks who are making the top tier incomes (no bragging, but that's what the surveys say) and most of us feel Effed!
  • What is the answer? rice imports??? heh!
  • Got an email from Naeem, he mentioned that importing a whole container would be VERY expensive! We need to find out HOW expensive exactly? I threw around the idea of doing promotional stuff like getting a bunch of movie stars and singers together and putting tickets on it.
  • I think the key would be to start small... I wish Naeem had Instant Outliner and also that this IO stuff had collaborative capabilities.. that would be Fuggin Ko0L man!
  • Promised Mimi I'd help her paint the apt this saturday! and later go for a little outing (as it were). I feel bad cuz I stood her up a couple times already.. but I'm such a lamo.. Shouldn't have gone for the expo thingy (which was a total wash any ways!)
  • Guess no one's happy with what they've got.
  • DB is going to be in tomorrow.
  • Playing the song that Adam Curry's gonna play in his show tomorrow .. "I wanaa know.. what y'er feelin... too tooo bim bop bop..."
  • I should get an iPod and an iMac...

  • The reason this thing wasn't working was because of the threads that had stopped for some reason! Thanks to all the help from Lawrence Lee (who selflessly answered my emails over the weekend) it is working again!
  • I for one am very satisfied by Radio support, and will be buying the product. Now only if I knew where the dang manuals are? I guess they are scattered all over the place! I wish the radio API was documented somewhere!
  • I am not going to edit my "frustration induced" comments below because that would be editing how I felt, but the Radio support was great! so everything is cool now
  • Thanks Lawrence Lee! and Cheers!

4/21/02; 9:47:01 AM by AEM -- WTF... (part deux)
  • Good morning from a much colder Toronto, the temps plummeted last night and it was pretty chilly in the apt. A picture named TO_sunset04172k.jpg
  • Did I mention the earthquake? I think it was at 6:56am yesterday when I woke up cuz the windows were banging and the bed was shaking enough to wake me up. This was a really weird experience, my first time in an earthquake (when I actually felt it). I was wondering if the building could give in, but that's just me. didn't know concrete building had this much elasticity in them..
  • So I've been working with incredibly patient Lawrence Lee from Radio Userland. I sent an email out to the reminder for buying radio. Radio is turning into Zope part II for me!
  • I mean its mysterious and there is stuff in the guts that challenges my curiosity, but I feel apprehensive of learning yet another system and spending my time in that than being productive and making some money. I guess its because my interests are separate from my work? I mean moving boxes around on a word document or matching various versions of the server software is hardly my idea...
  • One thing I found odd was that Radio is setup OOTB to email using a local smtp server. I have never run one, I don't know how many people do that? I mean why not create a text output file that sits in RadioHomeconfig directory or something with a datetime stamp in its name so two version don't overwrite each other? then the user could just cut it and paste it into a message and send to support. Anyhow, Lawarence very patiently has been teaching me some tricks (for example ...)
    • How to get the config info out without setting up an smtp server
      • Create a file called config.txt in www folder
      • put this code in there:
      • "< % radio . utilities . getConfigInfo () % >"
      • invoke this code from your radio installation by going to this url:
      • do a "view source" on that page.
      • select the portion which shows the config info, cut and paste it into an email.
  • So anyways, I guess I'd have to give in to the temptation, another language, the guts of another system.. another not so well documented system.. blah blah blah stop ranting mister.
  • I downloaded the Ruby book (pdf) and the Ruby windows install.
  • Ruby reminds me of smalltalk. It is more straightforward (or so it seems) than Python. Everything is an object and objects recieve messages.
  • One thing that I really like (on paper atleaset) is what they call "The Principle of Least Surprise") I guess there are no caveats and/or special cases. This is good, now I have to see if I can do something with that? Hey what about all the python/zope books that I purchased? I guess they'll be in the backend for now?
  • enough for a sunday morning..
  • oh how I wish my Instant Outliner was working... :(
