Well Isn't This inturrsting!!

So I went looking for wireless access nodes in the toronto area and found this Node right next door!. This is one of the nodes on the TWCN (Toronto Wireless Community Network) website.

Isn't this a small world? I have half a mind to give this dude a call ..I think I have an idea where this is, and its probably so they can go and work outside in the little park in front of that building.. SWEET!!!

Time to buy the wireless card for my iBook! (and get permission to use their network!)

6/30/02; 10:25:41 AM by AEM -- Spintronics? Bring on the Magnetic Chip
  • This is kind of exciting.. the researchers in a Durham research facility are working on this new kind of chip that will "revolutionize" the information processing
  • P.S. the "Add Link" feature in the outliner doesn't work.. is there any end to my frustrations today?
  • P.S.2 okay, so it seems that when you have something in the cut-n-paste buffer, and you select the "Add Link" menu item, it automatically adds a link to the selected item, and puts your select buffer in the link. Wouldn't it be nice to let the user know that you've done this nice thing for them? so they don't get frustrated and try to add the link 3 times, and add three link anchors instead? (as I did?). Then again.. its much cooler to develop the feature.. the users can take a hike (this is soooo corporatish, that it makes me sick)

.. and this is June 29th one..

Good Morning! I feel like WarChalking

Well I 've been reading the WarChalking blog, and I was thinking... hmmm... Why not use the Hieroglyphs [sp] with this Warchalking thing.??

Looking at the Hobo Sign Language got me thinking.. Was the Egyptian Hieroglyphs a result of even a prior culture of desert roaming nomads that skipped the Nile river and made their living by leaving these types of signs in the neighbourhood.. ??

Maybe in a fantastic twist of history and fate, this language became the norm of representation, and was the origin of the Egyptian system of symbols that supported a vast empire? The implication that the writing was not evolved due to a need of the rapidly organizing agricultural society, but had its roots in a nomadic way of life, is _interesting_ to say the least :D

This gets me to the node where I start making comparisons between what I've heard about the Gypsies of Europe, The Hoboes and the Nomadic Beggars back home in the subcontinent who are also prone to leaving marks at the doors using charcoal or other pigments.

Isn't this planet an interesting place?

This is the June 28th Post -- This better not get "cleared"

Of Mice and Men

So today.. we're looking for a place to go get some food and some beers. and every friggin patio was full! ( cuz it was a BEAUTIFUL day! I went out for a walk, returned the scanner and got a different one which hopefully will work with the iBook.. but I digress..) and we end up in Hoops (the bar on Yonge & Eglinton with a severe identity crisis. So we had just ordred our beers and hanging out when two couples came by and sat beside us.. All of a sudden, one of the girls gets up, and pours a whole fucking pitcher on the guy she was apparently with..

Then she storms out of the bar.. I was like WTF? and the guy just stood there wiping bud light off his face! And then she comes back after a couple minutes.. sits down with him like nothing happened.. they talk for about 20 minutes and both of them leave.. I don't know.. I don't think such dramatics are in order any more.. I mean.. I think throwing drinks in the guy's face is so 18th century.. I mean Get with the program BIOTCH! we know you're a slut so stop acting all goodie two shoes!

On a related note, the waitresses were all upset, because apparently the girl in question may have pulled a similiar stunt in the very same restaurant only a week or so ago.. Needless to say, it was an excellent start for the long weekend!

yay for dramatics, and for bitches all hopped up on estrogen and too much Oprah!

A few odds and ends

A shocker!! (at least for me) Dave Winer is a Windows User? What's up with THAT dude? I mean I thought Radio and Frontier and the whole outliner concept thingies started out as Macintosh software products ("More" for example?) but now Dave is a Windows user?

At least this explains why the Radio Mac stuff is not as "good" as the windows version. That's why no Pictures support, no WYSIWYG. I would have thought that Mac version of Radio was way better than the windows version.. but hey.. learn something new every day.

The good news is that Dave Winer is playing with the OSX (again?).. and once again, its that pesky iPod that created this opportunity! I'm glad the community was Wise enough to choose an iPod as the recovery gift. I think that is a good way to get people ease into using the "new Mac" hehehhe :)

I posted a rant about the fact the non-english speaking members/developers of the Zope Community have no problem asking for help in English, but they can not somehow make themselves right up a simple install file in English. I guess the ambassadors from the Geek Land would like to tell me that that's why BabelFish is there, but my response to that would be:

Give me a Fucking Break!!

Today I was a little sick. Didn't go to work.. I felt like I would throw up in the bus. I need to start eating properly. By night I'm okay, after not eating anything all day, I think most of the "food poison" is out of my system. So I had a couple beers with Sabeeh, so sue me!

Dude Where's my posts?
  • Okay, the two missing posts are for June 28th and 29th! Here is what we know about them.
    • They were posted.. and appeared on the blog, I know this because I checked them from Sabeeh's house yesterday, and they were there.
    • This morning, when I started Radio, the posts had disappeared from the local blog (before I published and item)
    • I looked at the blog and they were still there..
    • At this point I posted the WTF? item, at which point they disappeared from the weblog. I suppose everything on the front page is posted? I mean isn't it supposed to affect only the post being edited?
    • Digging thru the weblogData.root file, it would seem that the entries for 28th/29th are just not there. I also didn't see another entry that I can see in the blog.
    • Checked whether the archiving was on, and it was.
    • Look into the Archives folder, and there are two documents for 28/29 one each. Looking at the document, both docs are empty..
      • Hmmmmmmm FUUUUUUUUKKKKKKK .... hmmmmmmm
    • This is fucking bizzarre...
    • I DO NOT like losing my posts!!
    • I think I should turn off the Radio Updating Feature.. it seems that its this feature that's causing a bit of grief.. I mean I'm not sure what kind of Quality Control this thing is going thru, and to let development changes flow thru overnight seems kinda dare-devilish to me.
    • Anyhow, I guess I'm gonna start backing up my .root files.. but it seems pretty scary that I can't trust the tool!

I'm not happy (Losing perfectly good posts AFTER they've been published, is NO FUN)
  • Okay, here is the problem.. Radio is eating my posts.. I had 3 posts after the American idol post, and all three are gone.. I first noticed them gone from my Radio setup, and when I looked in the version published on the Radio Community Server, they were still there! Once I went in and created a new one this morning, the RCS version has reverted in line with my local version.. Translation? 3 posts gone!!
  • I guess Dave's illness is taking its toll on the "community" server. This is the kind of thing that I'm afraid of (if in fact its because the RCS system failed) when there is a SPOF (Single Point of Failure) in a system. In this system, its Dave and his small team of dedicated individuals who are feeling the pain of maintaining the system while Dave recovers.
  • I may just be hyperbolizing here, but it would seem that the system runs smoothly because the developer(s) make small tuning adjustments constantly. The other thing that rears its ugly head - every time there is a problem with the Radio setup - is the realization that there is so much black boxy stuff that you just wish would keep working and not croak, cuz if and when it does, there is going to be a lot of pain and suffering and withdrawl.
  • The thing that bothers me most is the fact that my posts are being lost.. this can't be a good feeling.. These are the times when I seriously start thinking about MovableType.. Only if it wasn't such a bitch to setup!
  • Off we go looking for the lost posts!!

WTF?

Okay, so the last 3 posts have disappeared from my Radio setup on the iBook, They are still there on the blog, but just not here on the Radio.. This is weird!

Brasil is kicking ass right now.. Ronaldo just hit the first goal of the world cup finals (2002)..

The second goal just happened.. Ronaldo is on fire today. The Germans are just not having good luck. Within the same minuted Bierhoff had an excellent try, but missed. Looks like the world cup is going to Brasilia!!! :D
