The Absolute Best Books to Read. Friday, June 28th marked the first anniversary of the passing of Mortimer Adler, founder of the Great Books program, so it is fitting to enter into a discussion about what should be on a list of the absolute best books to read...and why.  Then there are the related questions, such as: why did Adler see fit to declare a "canon" of great books in the first place? [kuro5hin.org]

Mr. Adler is lame dude! No mention of Don Quixote? Which cave did you live in dude? Hey, most of the stuff I see on the Kuro5hin page is just current pop, or mainly english stuff.. Hey guys.. there were OTHER writers.. dispersed over centuries!

Here is my list:

  1. Don Quixote
  2. Gil Gamesh
  3. Thus Spake Zarathustra
  4. Beyond Good & Evil
  5. Crime & Punishment
  6. 1984
  7. Plato's Dialogs
  8. In Praise of folly
  9. The Prince
  10. Kama Sutra

Student Paddled For Refusing to Recite Pledge of Allegiance. In Alabama, a student stood silently with his fist raised rather than recite the Pledge of Allegiance. As punishment, the boy was spanked three times with a wooden paddle and given a written reprimand. The school board policy requires students to say the pledge and salute the flag during the day's first class and to sit through "prayer requests" and a moment of silence. The rest of the story is here. [kuro5hin.org]

Oh for the love of the land of the free!!!...

Business process spec hits draft form. BPML 1.0 aims to standardize process modeling across systems [InfoWorld: Top News]

Hey what about the Opensource ERP effort going on? Compiere is one such system. I guess there is going to be "synergy" between these two efforts??

U.S. War Pilots bomb a wedding party! yaay for freedom

Well, what else did u expect? another "mis-targetted" bomb! Is anybody fuckin watching this shit? or all the logistics officers fucking asleep?

The link is to the BBC story, I'm sure CNN would rather discuss whether the senators should wipe their asses with paper or tree bark!

the BBC website was kind enough to provide us with this rundown of the blunders by the US forces that have been reported so far:

  • Four Canadian soldiers were killed in April when a US fighter bombed them by mistake during a training exercise.
  • In January, US bombs killed civilians in the village of Hazar Qadam, targeted as a Taleban compound.
  • In December, planes bombed a convoy from the eastern town of Khost, killing people Mr Karzai said were tribal elders travelling for his inauguration.
  • Last October, a targeting error led to a bomb hitting a residential area of Kabul, instead of a helicopter at the airport.

Well, as long as the valiant pilots declared "self defence" against the wedding party, we should be okay.. right boys? now go shoot some more women and children!!
