A little more about the "American Idol".
I think that this is not only a show that lets the viewers voice (funny how this idea was never tried seriously before the rise of the internet and the b o g ?? )
One thing that becomes progressively clear is that the big media is starting to understand that there is no way they can keep pushing shit anymore.. however they don't want to give away control so easily, so these are the tentacles of the monster.. feeling the new territory.
These quasi interactive shows, that allow the user a degree of participation, are actually a form of a study as well.. to see how the public can be manipulated while giving them the facade of participation. I think the reverse-negative implications of one of the judges may be one of such attempts at the part of the writers etc. In the second episode where the users chose the next 3 contestants, one guy (A. J. Gill ) was chosen by the public, regardless of the fact that he was constantly picked on by the judge with the british accent..
Just my paranoid rant.. but I would do it if I was a media compnay.. My existence would depend on it..
