Bachelorettes in Alaska, Survivor in Africa (and whereever the fuck else!)
- Okay, I have a bit of a problem with this "reality" show concept. I mean this is "The Real World" all over again, in a never ending nightmare of endless crap being pushed.
- Just watching the "bachelorettes" show, waiting for Sienfeld re-run to come online.
- One thing that I have the biggest problem with is the trivialization of human relationships that these shows implicitly advocate and connotate (pardon my grammar).
- Survivor is the bastardized version of the concept of survival. Even though, to me, it seems that the survival of any social species comes not from "stab in the back" competition, but mainly, through cooperation for the common good. IMO, the format for these shows should be such that one tribe wins against the other against obstacles placed in their way by the audience etc. This way they leverage the strengths of all members and cope with the weaknesses of all members, and let the best man/woman win in the end (somehow, it can be done I'm sure)
- The bachelorettes/bachelor shows are a total atrocity. The trivialization of human relationships to the point where they are being broadcast on national tv is just unbearable for me (even though I can't properly put my finger on it)
- The message seems to be.. human relationships are trivial. Its okay to stab someone in the back. Basically, its the affirmation of the corporate culture that sponsors these programs. What is sickening is the implicit support of the cloak & dagger corporate sleaze being internalized by the mass culture. I guess, the corporation is king, and will be for some centuries to come. I can only imagine the possibilities.
- Anyhow, that concludes my rant.. I just hate these pseudo-entertainment shows.. Are we really that much better off than the 16th/17th century overt oppression?
- But then again, I never lived in those times, so, easy for me to complain!

Looks like I'd be using the outliner again!
- Well I'm not sleeping well these days.. dunno why? maybe its cuz I've been playing with the iBook+iPod too much.. (not much with iPod.. it worked out of the box and been pretty slick) iBook, on the other hand, is taking time to setup. I haven't played with a Mac as my primary machine in a looooong time!
- Just installed (transpalnted is more like it) the Radio install from my win2k machine to the iBook. Some observations:
- The WYSYWIG tool doesn't appear! so I can do the bolding and stuff right in the edit window.
- As I am typing this, the opml window grays out periodically, I think this happens everytime the upstream thread kicks in..
- I've enabled the My Pictures tool, and the thread seems to be picking up the pictures and depositing in the right place, but I can't seem to have it appear in my edit window.. Was Radio a primarily Windows' app? I didn't think so.. I actually thought that the Mac version would be much cooler, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
- Also got the Zope binaries for OSX, haven't had time to install it.
- Going to GG's place today to get some software and install the plone setup. The only thing is, Plone is in a state of friggin flux.. dunno how he would react to it. Plone developers are saying use the CVS.. that I haven't done so far.. I hate it when I have to deal with CVS.
- Things I need to do on the iBook
- Get the FINK installations of MySQL and other un*x tools
- install Zope OSX version.
- Install CMF
- Get a CVS tool for iBook (OSX)
- Install a version of Plone
- Play around with AppleScript, seems very interesting.

Okay, this is a little bit odd
- Seems like I might have to use the outliner to do the formatting? why the heck isn't my WYSIWYG tool showing up in the Mac version? This is getting me distressed to some extent!

Yaaaaaay!!
So I got the iBook & iPod and now I'm iBroke. But I've been busy playing with the new toy. Need to download some stuff for it. I got to move my radio setup to the new box. Looks like I'd have to get another license.
This is a total bitch!!! why? because I should be able to use my software on my primary box without having repurchase the license. I don't think its about the cost, its about the principle of the matter (IMO). I shouldn't have to purchase a new license just cuz I bought a new computer. Now I'm thinking if I should go with blogger-pro or something.. I mean.. I already got links pointing to my current radio account and now its gonna be a back to the drawing board type thing (it seems like.. but I need to do more research). Researching Radio site for this info is a bitch too.. why does radio remind me of Zope? is this the underlying developer/hacker run amok mentality that produces these pieces of software that actually causes the product to be very easy to use.. unless off course you want to do something the venerable developer didn't have the chance to think of.. this is where the quality control in the opensource/individual development model breaks down!
Anyhow.. I still can't use radio from my mac. So it will have to be from the desktop for now.. I hate the way Radio (which I have come to love as a blogging tool) ties me to a machine.. I mean.. why can't we have one bloody database which I can port to anyplace? I mean doesn't radio have its roots in the Macintosh to begin with? if so, then why can't I just port the thing to my new iBook ?? I guess I have to slog thru the posts before I rant some more..
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
