I was thinking about these weblogs and comparing the experience to some personalized newspaper ideas the folks at MIT had back in the early days of internet publishing, circa 1973.
Back then the idea was to allow the "front-page" of the site to be a complilation of a community of subscribers to a large news feed. The subscribers would promote a news story and it's rank on the site would be relative to the number of users that selected that story. It also allowed for comments and discussions about that story. It seems very similar to the experience of BLogs/Weblogs....it was engaging and collaborative and provided for more expression than the editorial page of the daily newspaper.
You can read more about this idea and experience here: http://fishwrap-people.www.media.mit.edu
It's kind of a shame that more newspapers didn't adopt the fishwrap model with their internet publishing model. I think they are waaaay too late now. This weblog technology wroks...............
