Dell Battery Problems with BAT30WL Inspiron 5000
Spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with Dell again tonight. (Not counting 10 minute muzak wait-for-rep time.)
The 2 (new) replacement batteries for my Inspiron laptop are now dead.
The laptop is primarily used on the desktop, powered via AC adapter, and rarely on batteries. (The laptop has never been able to play a full DVD off of 1 battery charge.)
A search for buying a new battery at Dell was pathetic. I searched by model number.
A google site search produced a very interesting "battery recall" result, and a dell hosted forum post which mirrored my situation. Perhaps it's time to get the charging circuitry analyzed?
Still listening? The Dell "Complete Care" Warranty is not complete. Batteries are only covered for 1 year. I asked the curteous tech. support woman to send me that in writing via a standard letter. She wanted to put me on hold again to find out how that could be accomplished. I stated my situation, disappointment, and request again for the (I only hope) "This call may be recorded for.." monitors and called it a night.
Shopping for batteries is worse.
Hundreds of 6 month warranty sites for $110+-$10. eBay offers "guaranteed to hold a charge upon delivery, No Warranty" batteries for $40, and some 6 month warranties for $90.
Is IBM, Compaq, Gateway any better??
