I have been evaluating various weblog tools over the past several months, and I have to say that there are many good resources out there. Movable Type, Radio Userland, the Blosxom family browsers, bzero, PyDS, Roller, GreyMatter, and Blogger. I cannot forget RCS, PyCS, and XML-PRC which are key to the weblogging infrastructure. Nor, can I forget the weblog utilities that make's life a little easier, like NewNewsWire, Kung-Log, Blapp, and the list goes on and on....
This is great for our community. What other community has the interoperability of the weblogging tribe? Diversity thrives. If I want to use a PHP-based app, I can. If Perl is more to my liking I have a few options to consider. Java tools are available to those interested in putting Struts or XDoclet to work. And of course, Python Zen can be achieved in our weblog nirvana. Our community thrives because of this diversity.
A little over a week ago I ran across a weblog article by Emmanuel M Décarie. Emmanuel took the time to share with us his workflow. His weblogging toolkit is made up of Radio, PHPosxom, AppleScript, and BBEdit all working in one accord to deliver his message each day. What encourages me is the blending of his tools, the synergy that radiates when these tools are interwoven with one another. His workflow is a celebration of this diversity.
Thanks, Emmanuel for including me in your "celebration". And thanks to the folks that take the time to make this software better!
