Are you considering delving into RIAs? Today there appears to be two options: Flash MX Remoting and Java. Both solutions offer cross-platform solutions.
In my mind, this is why Mac OS X is the best web development platform today. Apple has made a major commitment to deliver Java solutions to the desktop and server side. In addition to Java, OS X users also can enjoy the offerings provided by Flash developers. Java Web Start and the Flash Plug-in are the essentials required to tap these RIA offerings on the desktop. Apple has done an excellent job of making both components available to all OS X users. What would happen if Apple, Sun and Macromedia decided to put a little effort into promoting this great combination? Personally, I think it would give people one more reason to consider joining the Mac OS X experience.
