Yes, Elvis is coming to a Mac OS X powered-system near you.

Elvis is the codename for Apple's new journaling technology. Those who have worked with BeOS have experienced the power of a journaled file system. Dominic Giampaolo, author of the Be filesystem, joined Apple earlier this year to (Check out this Register piece for additional background info) work on Apple's implementaion of the technology.

An excerpt of the eWeek article gives one a glimpse of the power of journalling, "In a journaled file system, the file system keeps a log of the hard disk's main data activity. In case of a crash or other system failure, the file system can retrieve lost data by consulting the "journal" log, restoring the system to its previous state.."

Apple has been hard at work for over a year on this project and it will be interesting to see if Apple's utilization of the technology will foster the use in other realms of the computing universe.

Jeremy says, "By rearchitecting ColdFusion MX so that it can run on a Java server, we're enabling developers using ColdFusion to take advantage of the performance and reliability of the J2EE platform. For example, if you deploy your ColdFusion application on IBM WebSphere, it will run just like any other application on WebSphere."
