Does it work?

Okay, why do I have to pay 40/yr ?? what have I gotten in terms of new functionality? and for space that sells for cheaper.. For a one purpose program, it seems a bit high.

nope!

For What Its Worth

Armageddon is on the "new VR".

My RADIO subscription will expire tomorrow. I'm taking the iBook with me to ElmHerst, but don't know if I'll be able to post (as if it is so critical). I somehow don't like the idea of paying 40 bucks every year when I can run MT on my own site for a full 25/mo So why don't I do it? I dunno.. lazy I suppose?

I have to do the following:

  • Renew tingoo.com
  • Get domain name for rantissimo.net
  • Get a host, or see if Hurrah can do the MT thing.
  • move the weblog to rantissimo.net
  • start promoting the thing. Question: What is my niche? really?

    Currently reading:

  • Empire (once again).. still dry as a toad.
  • A language older than words. (interesting, new-agey, sorta kinda rebellious) oh well.. I like some ideas presented, haven't finished it yet.
  • Guns, Germs and Steel : Interesting book. I've only read the first few chapters. I would like to read the rest of it. I think it seems a bit rushed.

Went biking again.. I've been biking lately, without any effects on the ole gutte. I think I'm doing this all wrong. without any direction in terms of diet, I can't control the outcome of all this. Even though I was introduced to the biking traills in London Onatario which are quite nice actually.. Its about 20km. Which is not bad. The only thing is that I have to drive 40k one way to get to the trail.. maybe there are some nice ones in the INgersoll area? hmm.. we'll see.

I got calls from back home. Mom and my brother and everyone are worried I might get SARS. I dunno.. I might.. but the chances are low. Plus I'm not using the public transit too much these days. I heard a stat on TV the other day that in the same time period in which SARS claimed 20 lives in Toronto, there were 100 Flu related deaths.. so there you go. Talk about blowing things outta proportion.

I think Derrick Jenson's other book (Culture of Make Believe) would be interesting.

The war is over. The U.S just arrested Ahmed Chalabi's lieutenant [sp] today cuz he was trying to exercise authority not "his". Well, Mr. Garner has started to sound like any old dictator from the middle east. He dismissed the protests by Iraqi's as the work of the iranians. People are still running around with guns in Baghdad. I think it would be very easy for the Baath party to "unofficially" re-assert itself given the stupidity that reigns supreme and the complete lack of preparation that the U.S. seems to have shown. Could it be that the U.S. is just pretending to be stupid? or is it that they actually didn't think of the "after" part of this liberation?

I guess the time will tell.

    Ola!

    A beautiful sunday in Toronto

Today is a beautiful day. I'm gonna go biking again. so far I've biked around 110+ km (if my calculations are correct) I think from my house to the end of commissioners island and back is around 35 km.

I've been meaning to comment on the National Post's Self congratulationary ad campaign that's going on these days. I suppose that is in response to a rash of "Fascist" graffiti vandalizing the National Post newspaper vending boxes in the GTA lately. Phew. that was a really awkward sentence, but I'm not going to go back and fix the grammar. Try to make sense of it if you can. But I only kid. I don't think its cuz of the kids writing "fascist" on NP boxes, but its because of loss of readership due to the extreme stance that National Post has been taking.

Then you get these N.Post employees singing the praises of National Post. My contention is; Why can't National Post find a set of dedicated users who can say these nice things about the National Post? I find it a bit tackey that the paid employees of an organization are acting as if the company is the best thing since the sliced bread..

There is this thing on the tube about "Jarhead". The author, a marine had some interesting things to say. He still wants to go back and kill. He never did kill during the last gulf war. And he admitted that he pee'd in his pants the first time the shells started coming in.

I guess most everyone would, knowing that the next piece of metal flying thru the air at crush-skull speeds could spell the end of the thing that you call yourself!

    ola!

    Just a list

I said in the last post that I would print the list of oil producing countries and their political climates. So here it is from Alexander's Oil and Gas Connections. I don't read that site regularly, so I don't know much about it. but I found a list of the OPEC member countries. This is a who's who of tyrannay, murder, mayhem and human suffering (exept for those that are sitting nicely and openly in the empire's lap.

  • Algeria,
  • Indonesia
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Kuwait
  • Libya
  • Nigeria
  • Qatar
  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Venezuela

Now ask yourself: Why is it that most of these countries have the most volatile political systems? why some of these countries supported genocidal regimes (with US blessings most times) ?? Why? Why? Why?

I may sound conspiratorial, but then again, if you are a CNN zombie? what the fuck are you doing reading this shit? leave.. I'm just talking shit. okay? go embed yourself in your sofa and watch Fox News.

    ASSHOLE!

    Just for Fun

The final days of war come as a relief.. finally they stopped the fucking bombing.. I'm sure the citizens of Baghdad are going through the same kind of a relief.. the relief that the bloody bombs have stopped.. for now!

Jubilant people.. its kind of sick.. the government in store for these poor souls is probably no better than what they already had.. and still darker days are probably ahead for them..

I've been meaning to compile a list of all the major producers of oil.. I'm sure someone has already done it. And list whether or not it has any sort of democracy.. chances are.. that its an illegitimate and cruel dictatorship implicitly supported by scions of democracy and liberty like none other than George Bush and Tony Blair..

    Interesting indeed are the times..

    Fall of Baghdad

One interesting thing about Baghdad. The fall of this city has indicated a new event in every era.

Maybe this would be the start of something for the Empire.. or is it beginning of the end?

I think America has another 200 good imperial years.. but then again..

    3 Journalists die

Okay, noone ever reads this blog.. so not a problem. But I would like to mention that the "liberators" and the "defendeurs of freedeum" bombarded 3 separate locations in Baghdad. All of these locations contained independent journalists.

Its interesting how the U.S. "mistakenly" ends up bombing an Aljazeerah office here.. an abu-dhabi bureau there.. shells a hotel containing news reporters somewhere close by..

    Shame on you!

    Regime Change

Advancing down the road from Niniveh
Death paused a while and said 'Now, listen here.
Your see the names of places roundabout?
They're mine now, and I've turned them inside-out.
Take Eden, further south: at dawn today
I ordered up my troops to tear away
its walls and gates so everyone can see
that gorgeous fruit which dangles from its tree.
You want it, don't you? Go and eat it then,
and lick your lips, and pick the same again.
Take Tigris and Euphrates; once they ran
through childhood-coloured slats of sand and sun.
Not anymore they don't; I've filled them up
with countless different kinds of human crap.
Take Babylon, the palace sprouting flowers,
which sweetened empires in their peaceful hours -
I've found a different way to scent the air:
already it's a byword for despair
Which leaves Baghdad - the star-tipped minarets,
the marble courts and halls, the mirage-heat.
These places, and the ancient things you know,
you won't know soon. I'm working on it now.'

    SARS 'R' Us!

Its amazing how close you can come to something that is the subject of such media attention. I was paranoid as usual about SARS, but never thought that someone that I knew could have come very close to the initial "cluster" of patients (as they refer to it). I was talking to this friend of mine who told me that his wife was in Quarantine because she worked at the Scarborough Grace Hospital. Thankfully she didn't develop any symptoms. But that was kind of close.. :)

I always knew that she worked at a hospital in the east end, but don't know enough about GTA hospitals to have remembered that it was SGH. Well.. My friend never had to wear a mask and didn't seem too concerned about it.

Today I was at Noah's Foods and saw this elderly person wearing a mask. I wasn't sure if he had it.. it seemed more like he was freaked out cuz elderly ppl don't seem to survive it and was wearing it as a precaution..

Still I find hard to understand the fact that the workers at two major GTA Hospitals can be so careless with contagious disease that their behaviour causes the shutdown of two hospitals..

I mean.. this wasn't even a real epidemic.. how would these ppl cope with a real epidemic.. or worse yet.. ???

The only safety seems to be in the odds these days.

Who da F**K are you trying to fool?

so CablePulse is showing footage about the toronto war protest on Saturday

It was a big gathering .. but guess who they interview:

One woman wearing hijab -- obviously a Muslim One Indian Woman One Guy with an arabic accent

I see tons of europeans.. (Non Ethnos if you will) but the 24 hour toronto channel doesn't try to depict the fact that there are people from all backgrounds there..

what's going on here? The media wouldn't be trying to send you a message would it?

a message like.. "only a niche .. foreigner minority .. possibly Arab.. because they feel for their "arab" brethren/sistren came out to protest??"

Sometimes I marvel at the quiet viciousness of the art that is racism in this country..

"hey if I don't like this country I should leave right?"

or maybe I should try to make it better? as any concientious [sp] citizen should!

    End of PLAY

this marks the end of my feeble attempt to blog a TV program Live..

I think I got most people's opinions wrong.. so there..

Now they're discussing "intra artist opression" that happens when artists don't like ppl who don't follow the "cool & trendy" causes..

Janine thinks its "absurd".. the ppl could have boo'd Michael Moore _after_ he was finished.. another interesting thing that she mentioned was that the boo'ing came from the balconies (implication being that "non artists" there were waiting in the wings - literally - to pounce on Michael Moore as soon as he opened his mouth .. hehehe.. these reich-wingers are a proactive bunch!)

Michael Stipe said that ppl don't have to bow down to Clear channel (who apparently owns 1100 radio stations and is right leaning) and just use other channels.. He mentioned Google..

but one thing ppl don't realize is that when Google becomes the information powerhouse... then it would be vulnerable to being bought off by ppl who want to manipulate the query engine to their own strategic ends.. (just my two cents)

last act is a Sudanese group singing .. "Don't Bomb Iraq"..

Should we be reading and enjoying art when War is going on?

this war in my opinion is weighing heavily on the conscience of the West..

hehehe.. you love to fuck the 85% in the ass.. but you don't like the means to that end..

you want your meat in pretty clear packages..

but you don't want to see how the cows are slaughtered..

    how sick

    Blogging "PLAY"

Janine Garrafolo [sp], Michael Stipe and others artists..

This Toronto RAP group opened the show with "This is not the war ON terror.. this is a war OF terror!" hmm.. interesting.. I should get their CD?? ..

    R.E.M .. antiwar song REM HQ ..

I like Janine's response when Jian asked her about "Artists for peace" or some such.. ie; it is absurd.. its like saying Should Plumber's be against the War? ..

I remember this snippet from FOX news channel. Bill Orielly talking about all the celebrities including Janine.. who never went to college.. and then Bill boasting his Masters degrees.. etc.. reminds me of the parable that if you load an ass with books.. it doesn't make it a scholar! hehehe :)

    but I digress..

One artist on the show was telling how the airport security ppl telling the artist who wore an anti-bush shirt that it was "un-american"

are you fucking kidding me? is this Nazi Germany part deux or what?

[commercial break].. okay blogging a event in real time is a pain in the ass.. here are my thoughts so far. Jian is doing this show cuz he's showing up next saturday in Nathan Philips Square .. Obviously .. I'm just being ridiculous here.. that may have something to do with it .. but Gian is pretty cool so I take my comment back..

The Girl in the new ING commercial is kinda hot.. what I find creepy is the old guy who, without notice pops out of screens behind these new spokespeople to say "..and SAVE _your_ money..".. CREEEEEEPY!.. the chick remains hot!

    [back to PLAY]

An IRAQI musician (Saif Shaheen).. calling for Peace .. yada yada yada..

why am I blogging this program?

The little girl in orange dress

.. One man's body was still in flames. It gave out a hissing sound. Tucked away in his breast pocket, thick wads of banknotes were turning to ashes. His savings, perhaps.

Down the road, a little girl, no older than five and dressed in a pretty orange and gold dress, lay dead in a ditch next to the body of a man who may have been her father. Half his head was missing.

Its not as pretty as CNN made it out to be.. TruthOut.org

Does it all have to make sense?

    Slices of the war
    The fascist says
    and reminds me of
    the slices of people
that his bombs raining down on them make

    "Monstrous "
is the "liberation" task we have undertaken
    says the neo-fascist
    "Freudian slip"
    I think

Will you eat all the food?
Will you drink all the drinks?
    Will you live by yourself
in a world which you have rendered barren?
    Asks a man
On a street filled with powerless anger

    oblivious to his desparate questions
The most powerful nation on the planet
    gorges itself on big-macs
