Installed PCI latency hack and ran python script to thrash hard disk. It wrote 93Gb over 5 hours and was still going. I changed it to read/write and it crunched 500Gb in another 5 hours. I think the reading mainly thrashed the cache. It is promising.

Mozilla still won't boot.

Mozilla still won't boot. Installed FireFox (was FireBird) and it seems ok. I miss the Mozilla download manager. I was fiddling with FireFox's equivalent during a download and managed to break it hard. FireFox would not boot, just sat in task manager. I fixed it by creating a new profile.

I did some hacks to do things like highlight the active tab better. There are some nice possibilities in the online tips.

Reinstalled Palm, Bonsai, DayNotez on main PC.

I had a classic lockup yesterday. I'll try the PCI latency hack from that www.georgebreese.com site. I was trying to reinstall mozilla which was still not booting when it happened.
