Life is too short to stuff a mushroom.
Ah, well, I have my iBook again, it has been visiting my parents for a couple weeks. In the meantime in desperation I got a discarded 486 laptop running Debian Testing and read some documentation. It's what I do.
I thought I would make a brief HST post before the usual babble. What has been going on that is interesting? Work has been crazy, our work area has been uprooted and moved next to my boss's cube. I walked in one day to find all of my stuff (a giant monitor box worth) packed away. I'm sure noone 'halt'ed my Linux workstation, or VNC'ed into my Windows box (which is headless) to shut it down. Sigh. I was on the clock all day, but nobody bothered to mention that the office was being torn down NOW.
Anyways everything has been more or less set back up. My area may be more comfortable now, I used to be in the corner so I could use the keyboard tray. But I think putting the keyboard on the desk top is more comfortable on my hands. I'll put the picture of our area up in a post.
I have let this quarter die in peace, I am taking F's in both classes. Sigh. I will try again Spring quarter in a few weeks. Too much drama this quarter on the work and home fronts. I can only handle so much at a time. I'm sure I will tell the stories about my boss at some point, but it's too long to get into now.
I was going to drop my RSS reader's feed from http://nat.org, because he's rich and young and smart and I am old and poor and dumb, and bitter. But he posted a few words about HST, and all is forgiven. Those that Have an Ear to Hear, Let Him Hear.
I finally got to try out my new bike, after two months of frozen snowstorms and ice here in Ohio. The shit would not thaw! And I spent a week commuting 30 miles from my folks' place, in my car obviously. Last Tuesday was in the 40's and dry, so I rode in. I was scared, because it's 15-20 minutes of pedaling, and I haven't ridden in like 7 weeks, and I'm smoking again. But it was a great ride, it was over before I knew it. The new cheapie Huffy mountain bike has a nice tall seat so I can straighten my legs all the way while pedaling in the seated position, the brakes are good, and the tall gear is very tall which makes short work of the long sections of unbroken bike path that I use to get to campus. I used my tail light on the way home in the twilight, which gave me a lot of confidence on the street. It's a nice light kit with an led tail light and a halogen headlight.
Okay enough babble for now.
I am still running Linux on this thing, but I am considering running OS X again. I have to admit that I miss some things about it. GNOME on my machine is just as easy to use as OS X, many of the same keyboard shortcuts, Mozilla is Mozilla is Mozilla, and gnome-terminal is only a little nicer than Terminal.App. I'm surprised that I feel this way, but I really do miss OS X, after not using it for several months. I may back up today and load OS X.
I have a new 'server' machine here at the house, and it's registered through DynDNS, at build.homeunix.net. I don't even have an index.html on it yet. But I can SSH :) And it has a nice 8GB drive for storage. I know 8GB is small these days, but with all of my data and even OS X (hard disk hog!) my 10GB iBook drive pretty much does the job.
As I said, enough for now, The sun is shining and it's a nice day. It's noon, I slept from 5am to 10:30am and am sipping coffee and catching up on RSS reading ;)

HST, RIP
What can I say? This isn't going to be a eulogy, not now. Maybe later. I think his death bothers me, I called off the next day, and have been on long beer swilling sessions Friday and Saturday. But I still believe; I still need to Kick Out The Jams. I still need to go King-Hell and not be sprayed with Shit-Mist. And they will still run Like Rats from a Swoop Fire. Because he was Hunter. And the Wierd have turned Pro. Selah. You were loved, Brother.
I bought all your books, in hopes of doing my part to provide Unlimited Credit.
But I am sober now, this will be done later.
